Improve Your Diet by Swapping Processed Foods for Natural and Organic Products

Perhaps you’ve tried the popular diet programs such as Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and the Atkins Diet. However, none of them have worked as well as you’d hoped. One way to improve your eating habits is to trade processed foods for organic and natural options.

When you visit a restaurant, take note of natural food choices. When it comes to menu printing, most establishments flag or make special notations by low-fat, organic and natural entrees. So, here are a few “trades” you can make at home and in restaurants that will improve your health and gradually help you lose the pounds.

  • Trade traditional peanut butter for natural peanut butter. While the fat content is comparable between the two, you’ll consume less sugar with the natural product. The taste is different so it may take some time to adjust. However, this high protein snack is better for your waistline without the added sugar.
  • Choose sea salt instead of table salt. While the two types of salt are basically the same at the chemical level, sea salt has a stronger taste. That means you’re likely to use less salt. Ask servers in restaurants if the chef can prepare your food with sea salt. You may not even reach for the table salt when your meal arrives.
  • Ditch standard potato chips for organic chips or dried fruits. Typically, organic snacks come in smaller portions, making it easier to control how much you eat in one sitting. You can also dry organic fruit and vegetables to create chip-like snacks. Another bonus is that most organic chips don’t have trans-fats or other unhealthy additives.
